forklift chains |
Finding the correct lifting chain for your forklift is easy here in the webshop.
1) Use a caliper to measure the pitch dimension indicated in the image on your old lifting chain. Then select the product group with that pitch dimension.
2) Using the images, choose the product group that has the same link combination as your old lifting chain.
3) Next, measure the link height of the chain using a caliper (see image). From the lifting chain(s) that have the same link height, compare the other listed dimensions (e.g., plate thickness, pin diameter, and pin length).
You have now found the part number of the lifting chain that can serve as a replacement for your worn-out lifting chain.

Lifting chain for lifting masts
Every forklift lifting mast lifts the load using one or more lifting chains. These lifting chains (also called fleyer chains) are specially designed to have a high tractive force. Naturally, these chains are susceptible to wear when in use. Especially the part of the chain that runs over the chain roller during lifting and lowering. Since chain breakage on a forklift truck can lead to major damage and injury, there are legal requirements for the maximum wear/stretch of a chain. In many countries, there should be a maximum of 3% stretch at the chain and in the Netherlands and the UK, even a maximum of 2% stretch on the lifting chain.
Measuring lift chain wear
To measure the stretch of a chain, chain wear gauges are available. Always use the chain wear gauge on the part of the lifting chain that goes over the chain roller of the mast. If the lifting chain is more worn than permitted by law, the whole lifting chain should be replaced.
Lift chain damage
Apart from wear of the lifting chain, damage to the lifting chain is also a safety risk. Therefore, check regularly that no damage can be seen on the lifting chain. For example:
-damage due to contact with the chain
-lift chain links that no longer move smoothly in relation to each other
-bent or shifted lifting chain pins
-cracks in the chain links
Even with such damage to the lifting chain, do not take any risks and replace the lifting chain. Incidentally, such damage will naturally also lead to rejection at a periodic technical lift truck inspection.
